Upcoming Research into Physical Activity and Mood in Bipolar Disorder

Hello, my name is Gemma McCullough and I am a PhD student at The University of Worcester, working with BDRN.

I will be exploring relationships between physical activity and mood symptoms in bipolar disorder. Little is known about this complex relatioship, and understanding more about it could provide valuable information about the underlying causes of bipolar disorder. The research could also provide a greater understanding of potential triggers which could improve the effectiveness of self-management techniques for mood symptoms.

I will be including some physical activity questions in the next BDRN questionnaire mail-out. I will also be analysing use some of the weekly responses in True Colours (http://bdrn.org/research/true-colours/) so that we can measure changes in activity levels and mood symptoms over a period of time.

I would like to say a big thank you to those of you who are already using True Colours, and to encourage other BDRN participants who are interested in tracking their mood symptoms to consider registering. Even if you are a BDRN participant who is currently very well, we would like you to consider joining True Colours as your information is still important for our research. Your contribution to the on-going work of BDRN is invaluable to us, and I look forward to sharing the results of this research with you all in the future.
