New BDRN paper published: Psychosocial markers of age at onset in bipolar disorder

Our recent study examining the psychosocial predictors associated with age at onset of bipolar disorder have recently been published in the British journal of psychiatry open. Of 28 potential factors investigated those found to be associated with an earlier age of onset of bipolar disorder included childhood trauma, regular cannabis use in the year before onset, family history of suicide and certain personality and temperament traits. The identified factors have the potential to help stratify high-risk individuals and to inform treatment provision and early intervention.
