Jo commenced a PhD studentship in January 2017 at the University of Worcester to study perinatal mental health on a co-funded place with South Staffordshire and Shropshire Foundation NHS Trust.

Jo qualified as a nurse in 1992 and worked on an oncology unit at City Hospital Birmingham. During this time she completed the combined oncology course and Diploma in Advanced Nursing Care at the University of West of England. Following this, she trained as a midwife in 1994 at Worcester.

After practising as a midwife for 14 years, she trained as a health visitor in 2009 at the University of Wolverhampton. Jo worked as a health visitor in Worcester for 6 years before embarking on her doctorate. In 2014, Jo completed an MSc in Primary Healthcare Practice at the University of Wolverhampton. Jo’s PhD involves understanding perinatal mental health care and referral decisions among midwives and health visitors.
